Gray Squirrel
Gray squirrel is the highest class of natural hairs used in cosmetic brushes. The thin tips, delicate soft fibers, and natural color production offer a silky finish on the skin. This excellent material results in brushes with the ultimate skin feel.
They are especially recommended for use on delicate skin.Cosmetic brushes using Gray Squirrel hair

Silver Fox
Silver Fox is known for its rarity and beautiful coat. It is an excellent material that boasts the soft skin touch of Gray Squirrel, and the thickness and volume of Goat, making it great at holding powders.
(Premium) Chikuhodo is the first in the industry to make use of Silver Fox hair.* (Premium) Silver Fox hair is an original Chikuhodo material made by taking overstocked fox hair harvested for fur garments and processing it through a proprietary method for reuse in cosmetic brushes. Goat
Goat hair is one of the most common types of hair used for cosmetic brushes. The wavy strands easily expand towards the tip, giving it a fluffy, airy feel and positive firmness that make it excellent at holding powders. In addition to loose powders, it also handles a variety of other types of cosmetics, such as pressed and liquid, and features good color production. The material is also durable and easy to handle.
Goat hair comes in several grades including Sokouhou, a relatively soft and fine hair selected from the goat’s chest, and Saikouhou, a grade of only the best fibers selected from Sokouhou. -
Horse
Horse hair is one of the most common types of hair used for cosmetic brushes. This supple, straight hair offers excellent color production and is appropriate for blush and eye shadow.
Many brushes use shorter horse hair to make up for the lack of firmness, and adapt to the skin through use. The material is also durable and easy to handle. -
Tanuki (racoon dog)
Tanuki hair features soft tips, thickness, and suppleness. It features less scattering of powders and a good skin feel, for a hair quality with a natural texture.
It is mainly used for brushes for eyebrows and concealers as well as screw brushes. -
Weasel
Weasel hair was long considered the highest quality hair for calligraphy brushes. Weasel hair combines a unique bend with soft tips but firm strands. They are excellent at applying lines, and offer good color production.
They work well not only with powders, but with liquid and cream cosmetics as well, and are primarily used in brushes for eye shadow, eyeliner, and lips.
We offer a wide variety of hairs in addition to those above, so please feel free to ask. -
Badger / Water Badger
This hair offers the firmest strands for use in brushes for eyebrows.
It offers excellent color production and allows application precisely along the line of the eyebrows.
Compared to badger hair, water badger hair offers finer tips but comes at a higher price. The longer strands are typically used in shaping brushes for men. They easily allow excess liquid to be dropped but have excellent foaming properties, producing detailed but dense foams.
